ERROR MSG: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.

Problem: 

The following error is received while installing EzParts Electronic Parts Catalog Software: "Timeout Expired: The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding."




Solution: 

Action to be taken by the user varies depending on the cause. Review the causes listed below:

  1. Installation of SQL Server failed and displayed an error message to the user. The user clicked next / or clicked continue. Since the previous step failed and MSSQL was not installed properly the database could not be installed, so you received this error message. What was the error message that was returned by the MSSQL install (Prior to this error being displayed)

    Corrective action: Re-install MSSQL

  2. MSSQL Service is not running on the users computer.

    Corrective action: Start MSSQL service for the appropriate MSSQL instance

  3. MSSQL is installed on the local computer but the firewall configuration is blocking access to MSSQL on the local computer

    Corrective action: Start MSSQL service for the appropriate MSSQL instance

  4. MSSQL is NOT installed on the local computer. The EzParts electronic parts catalog data is installed on a network server, The local machine cannot access MSSQL on the server computer

    Corrective actions:

    1. Check the instance of MSSQL on the server machine and make sure the service is running.
    2. Check the MSSQL configuration and verify that TCP/IP connections are allowed.
    3. Check the firewall on the local and MSSQL server to ensure MSSQL connections are allowed through the firewall.
