ERROR MSG: MSSQL does not install properly

Author name:
Product: EzParts® (DM) Distributed Media
Version: 5.0.0.0 and newer

Problem: Installing MSSQL for use with EzParts electronic aftermarket parts catalog returns one of the following errors:

  • Component Database was not set properly. Return code 2148735236.
  • Component MS SQL Server (64 bit) was not set properly. Return code 2587996706.

One of these errors may also be returned when the EzParts installer attempts to install MSSQL as part of the EzParts electronic parts catalog software installation process. The PC has an active network connection and anti-virus software is disabled.

Solution: Confirm that the computer name and the login account name are not the same. When the account used to log on to the computer is the same as the computer name MSSQL will fail the installation process.

Options to resolve the problem are:

  • Rename the user account so that it is not the same as the computer name.
  • Create another account with a different user name. Set the account to type "administrator" and set a password..

Then perform the following steps:

  • Log in to the computer using the new or changed account
  • go to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server"
  • Delete folder "MSSQLxx.EZPARTS" (remains from failed SQL installation).
  • Install EzParts from USB/DVD (simple installation).

If EzParts was installed under a new account, then after the installation:

  • log off of the new account.
  • log on the original account
  • A shortcut should have been created on the desktop and EzParts should be functioning properly
  • Any EzParts electronic aftermarket parts catalog updates, installs or uninstalls must be performed using the new account created in the previous steps.
